2005 San Francisco Grand Prix Highlights

This past weekend was the Fifth Annual San Francisco Grand Prix bicycle race. If you are unfamiliar, it is a professional cycling event that covers 108 miles of some of the hilliest terrain in the city. 160 riders from 24 teams compete in the race including Lance Armstrong’s Discovery team teammates, and this year the 2005 Tour De France yellow jersey wearer, David Zabriskie, and second place finisher Ivan Basso from team CSC.

Through some cycling industry connections, Danielle was able to secure us an early spot in the Mavic team support car. A total rush, we spent one lap whizzing through the city at very high speed following and weaving through the riders. What an experience! After the event, Danielle and I spotted George Hincapie from Team Discovery Channel. Danielle was happy to get George’s autograph and later to meet Chris Horner (formerly of Webcor) who now rides for the Prodir Saunier Duval team of Spain. (Dang! Why am I always stuck holding the camera?!)

Wow…it’s George Hincapie from Discovery Channel!
